Isukapalli – Northrop Grumman Teaching Award
Yogananda Isukapalli, an associate teaching professor in the ECE department, has been named co-recipient of the Northrop Grumman Excellence in Teaching Award
The annual teaching award goes to junior faculty in STEM fields who have demonstrated excellence in their teaching techniques, activities, and lectures, as well as in their interactions with students, colleagues, and staff.
Isukapalli joined the ECE faculty in 2017 and runs the Computer Engineering Capstone Program, and his teaching is also centered around courses related to CE capstone projects. "I am very happy to receive this teaching award from Northrop Grumman," said Isukapalli.
Regarding his general approach to teaching, Isukapalli says, "I try to present concepts as clearly as possible and connect them to real-world examples. Students seem to enjoy this part of my teaching. Before joining UCSB, I designed Wi-Fi chips at Broadcom for about seven years, and I use that experience to connect theory with real-world applications. In my opinion, one-one interaction with instructors is an essential part of the undergraduate experience. So, I make myself accessible as much as possible."
Prior to joining Broadcom, he worked as a postdoctoral scholar at Scripps Institution of Oceanography on developing channel models for underwater wireless communications. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UC San Diego in 2009.
